Concerned about possible use of harmful chemicalsMy son received this toy as a gift for his 6-month birthday. At the time, I remember hearing about how some plastic toys (often made in China) contain harmful chemicals that are known to cause cancer and feeling concerned that this toy might be one of them. I didn't do anything for awhile, seeing how my son enjoyed playing with the toy and thinking (stupidly) that if this toy were truly harmful, it wouldn't be sold in the U.S.
One day, I came across this toy on Amazon and noticed the warning to CA residents under "Product Details." I couldn't believe it when I read this toy is made with harmful chemicals known to "cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." I bet a lot of people who are giving this toy 5 stars are not aware of the warning.
UPDATE TO REVIEW ON 10-28-09: Amazon has removed the warning about the harmful chemicals, and in response to an inquiry I sent them told me "Product information from the item detail is added or deleted upon manufacturers information." Amazon suggested I contacted FP, which I did, and the FP rep said he couldn't find anything in their records indicating the toy's manufacturing had been changed. The toy's production has not been altered since 2007. He suggested that perhaps the warning wasn't accurate, and that's why it was removed. That may be, but it seems like a pretty big mistake for Amazon to make on multiple FP toys. I see now that none of the FP toys that previously had this warning have it now.
As for my son's reaction to the toy, he liked to bang the pieces together and put them in his mouth, but he never bothered to try to sort the shapes since the top doesn't stay in place, as others have mentioned. My son always removed the top and took out all of the pieces, no matter how many times I showed him how to sort the shapes with the top in place. Talk about poor design! I should have given it 1 star for the "educational" rating in hindsight, but I figured that theoretically it could be of some value if a child didn't remove the top. Also, Amazon wouldn't let me go back and change my ratings.
I just got another shape sorter for him from Amazon (the Tolo Rolling Shape Sorter), and within minutes he tried to put the shapes in the slots because he couldn't remove either the top or the bottom of the unit. Now that's an educational toy!
Not that great of a sorter...
This is a basic, durable, inexpensive toy. However what I don't care for is the fact that the lid doesn't snap on. I'm sure this is that way so babies can take it off, but I prefer the sorter that the child has to put the shapes through the holes. My baby figured out that it was easier to take the lid off! I like the Smartronics cookie jar sorter much better.
I can see her wheels turning...
As my 14 month daughter works on getting the right shape in the right hole. It's true that sometimes she just gets frustrated and picks up the lid and throws the shapes in the bucket instead of sorting them, but when I play with her talk to her and ask her where each shape goes she really focuses and we get them together. She looks so proud of herself when she gets them right, too! But even when she is playing by herself and taking the lid off, it's still a very fun toy for her to put them all in, take them out, and do it all over again!

"Pop Pop" Hits a HomerYou'll see toys that look more like "real" notebook computers on Amazon, but I trusted the consumer ratings (and liked the price) and gave this to my granddaughter for her third birthday. Reports from mom are that she's played with it practically non-stop (granddaughter, not mom) for three days and wants to take it with her wherever she goes. We're all musicians, and even mom's reviews about the functionality and tolerability of the music were positive.
Granddaughter more or less confirmed mom's favorable review by getting on the phone, reciting her ABC's ("alphabet," she corrected me), telling me that her own name starts with L, her Halloween costume starts with M (Mary Muffet), and her baby brother's starts with S (spider). Mom said she was impressed because at least five of the games are still beyond her (granddaughter, not mom), leaving room for further activity down the line.
("Pop Pop" refers to the writer--I forbid the use of the word "grandpa" with respect to my person--if my granddaughter tells me my name starts with the letter G, I'll consider lowering my rating).
A Winner
Vtech really got it right on this one:
* Durable, rugged construction. After a year of abuse from two young boys, the only issue is the mouse doesn't click well to the left, but it still works OK. Everything else is 100%
* Intuitive. My older son (then 2 years, now 3) figured it out almost immediately.
* Surprising depth. Some functions are more complex, making for lasting play. A year later, and my son still pulls this laptop out for play.
* Highly educational. Our son picked up his letters and numbers early, largely through constant use of this laptop.
* Cheap. the 3-year-old has been showing -- at best of times -- our younger son how to use it. Sometimes they'd fight over it. So we bought another.
A Lot of Bang for the Buck
Wow! I am so glad I bought this. After reading reviews on all of the other "laptops" for children, I decided on this one after thorough research. Most complaints with other parents on the other laptops was about the LCD screen being so small, while the screen on this is perfect for its size and intent. I did not have trouble seeing anything. So it doesn't light up, I'm thankful, that's one less battery to replace. The other complaint I read about the others is that they were loud. This one is not. My children playing with their toys doesn't disturb me though. If they are learning and interacting with the toy, I'm happy.
Another fun feature on this paticular "laptop" is that it has a working mouse. You can click to enter and move it slightly left or right or up and down (it is attached to the pad) to get to another activity or participate in one of the thirty plus fun games that offer pre-K learning and Kindergarten learing...find the shape that is bigger, etc... And yes I played with it to make sure everything worked correctly and to see what and how it would be teaching my children. It does teach and it has been fun for mine. It is a sturdy laptop with more bang for the buck than the rest of the other "laptops with many complaints" out there. You will be glad you purchased this for your little one. I have NO COMPLAINTS with this product. I also get involved with my children as much as I can to show them how learning can be fun. This purchase has been a smart one! Thank you Amazon!!! Go VTech !!!!

"Ready for take-off...here we go!" Diminutive pilots in training can let their imagination take flight with this stocky, swooshy, wiggly-wobbly airplane. Measuring 12 inches nose to tail, and 8 inches from wingtip to wingtip, this sturdy plastic plane features a pilot, two passengers, a piece of luggage, a door that opens, six windows, including the pilot's windshield, a handle over the cut-out top, working wheels (which make the pilot and passengers go up and down as if encountering turbulence), and the obligatory face on the front of the craft. Push down on the pilot in her seat (yes, her seat...we are in the 21st century, you know!) for flashing lights, a tune, flight attendant commentary, and swooshing airplane sounds. Judging from the outfits of the passengers and the palm tree design on the wings, this aircraft seems to be headed for a tropical port--airport, that is. What's not to love? My son loves this airplaneMy son got this plane when he was 19 months old. For several months now, he has been very much into cars, trains and airplanes. I got an email from Fisher Price showing this and other new toys. I let my son watch the demo for the airplane and he was hooked.
The airplane comes with a pilot, two passengers and a piece of luggage. Two of the three passenger seats as well as the pilot's seat move up and down as the plane is pushed along the ground. The plane has a side door which opens and the top is cut out for easy access to the passenger seating. When the pilot is pressed down, the plane makes noises, says a welcome to your flight message or plays a cute song. Red lights at the base of the wings flash in conjuction with the sounds.
This airplane is rather big compared to many Little People toys. It is about 12 inches long, 8 inches high and 8 inches wide. It's a little bit on the heavy side too, but a handle across the top makes it easy for my son to lift it for pretend flights through the air.
I bought this adoreable airplane at the Fisher Price online store for $17.00
I bought this for my daughter to help prepare her for her first real plane ride. She and her six year old brother both love it! It is very cute and charmingly detailed. I bought it at the Fisher Price online store for $17.00, and they guarantee satisfaction!
My 15 month old girl still loves it!
My daughter got this for her first birthday along with a bunch of other "Little People" toys. She loves them all, but the airplane is obviously her favorite. After three months she still loves carrying it around by the handle and playing the music and sounds. It's very durable because she's dropped it numerous times and it shows no signs of wear and tear. I've recommended this to friends and family with young ones. Now I'm recommending it to everyone here on Amazon.

Customer Reviews
Our baby asked us why we waited so long!!We were originally going to get our 8 month old a jumper that you hang from the door. After reading some reviews about injuries and mishaps from jumping into the door frames, we firmly decided against that and researched floor models.
We were between this Jumperoo and another one that has 4 support poles as the base. The square Jumperoo didn't have nearly as many toys for her to discover and it seemed to take up much more space. We decided on this Jumperoo because it took up less room and had more toys for only slightly more money. The investment was worth it for just the first 10 minutes of fun!
When we first put her in, she wasn't quite sure what to make of it and just looked around at the toys grabbing for them. After she realized (in the first 2 minutes) that she could jump, she did with great joy. Her face was all smiles and watching her kick her feet out while jumping had us all rolling on the floor hysterically.
The toys she likes best are the ones that spin and she reaches for the parrot and frog that hang. The tiger that comes up when you push on the button seems pretty useless, as does the color wheel.
The whole thing took us about 10 minutes to put together and another few minutes to wash the toys. Remember not the submerge the electronic one and to put 3 AA batteries in it. The box does not include the batteries and you'll need a screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Also, the large spinning ball has a rainbow sticker along the sides that if you don't dry right away, well, they'll start to wrinkle. The Jumperoo does fold up for easier carrying/stowing but it's not a smooth transition. I don't see us doing it that often however.
As I mentioned, the entertainment that the adults got was well worth the cost initially. And now, our baby girl has a great time bouncing on it while strengthening her legs. She doesn't seem to like jumping without an audience but maybe she will when she gets a little older. Don't wait to get this, you won't regret it!!
**09/02/2009 UPDATE**
Well, 2 kids and 2 1/2 years later, we finally decided to sell our Jumperoo. Would you believe we received tons of inquiries and eventually received nearly 70% of our original purchase price? What terrific resale value!
Better and more attractive than the Deluxe Jumperoo...
We have an active baby that really likes to stand, tries to walk when held, and always wants to be on the move -- it can be exhausting. From reviews I read, the Jumperoo seemed like a great toy to provide excercise and fun for the baby (and a short break for Mom and Dad).
The long awaited Rainforest Jumperoo finally came about a week ago! Since we had pre-ordered from Amazon in November anticipating a Christmas gift, we were disappointed that there were delays and it was not expected 'til well after the holidays.
In the meantime, my 3 month old son was anxious to move and had lots of energy, so I bought the Deluxe Jumperoo at a local retailer about 4 weeks ago. He liked it, but seemed to get bored quickly with the toys and would use it just a few minutes each day.
Some of the key differences with the Rainforest Jumperoo:
- The seat rotates 360 degrees and there are toys all around it, so there is always something new to look at -- and he can change his view of the room by himself (he's just starting to turn in it on his own).
- There are animals hanging above his head from the "leaves" and the baby loves to look at them and sometimes jumps to try and reach them.
- The music and sounds are pretty cool...like they would play at a carribean restaurant. The Deluxe music was okay, but the "boinging" noises (although fun at first) got annoying pretty quickly.
- The format is round versus the old A-frame style -- although I feared it would take up even more space, it actually looks less obtrusive and fits in the room better. It's easier to get by and doesn't trip you!
- There are three hanging springs (versus four) which seems to offer more mobility and freedom of movement. Sometimes he just sways around.
- Now nearly 4 months old, our son will spend happy stretches of 20-30+ minutes multiple times a day in the Rainforest version. Less than a week ago, he would spend about 15 minutes a day in the Deluxe version.
- The Rainforest version is attractive and seems well made in comparison to the "Deluxe". It has thoughtful design details -- like the tree frog seat and the silky green tie-dyed fabric under the hanging leaves.
- It appears that when folded it will take less space than the Deluxe -- which is pretty awkward when folded.
- If your decor is more subtle, the Rainforest Jumperoo will probably fit in better than the vibrant blue painted frame of the Deluxe version.
Suggested changes:
- More opions for the height of the seat -- this seems like an easy change the manufacturer could make that would be helpful. My son is pretty tall for his age, but between a "1" and a "2". So his feet are flat on the ground at level 1, and don't quite reach at level 2. This means he stands and sort of walks to get slight bouncing -- versus actually jumping (the toes are supposed to touch but not have feet flat on floor for optimal jumping).
- I would like some sort of storage option (like a vinyl bag it would fit into) to take to another room, store it for company, etc.
Overall, the Rainforest version was a little more expensive than the Deluxe, but in my view, well worth it. The differences are more than cosmetic, and our son really does seem to enjoy it more than than the Deluxe (which is on it's way to Grandma's today).

Every child should have a tea set somewhere in the toy box, not just for feeding favorite dollies and teddies, but also for practicing tea-party manners before a special party or dinner. This molded plastic set is made with the thoughtful design and extra-durable materials of most Fisher-Price toys, with the added bonus of a jolly musical teapot. It plays "I'm a Little Teapot" when the top of the lid is pressed, and also provides a "magical" chiming noise when the pot is poured (requires two button-cell batteries; included). The set includes four teacups in pastel shades, matching saucers, a sugar bowl, a creamer, and four white spoons. Everything fits onto a sturdy lavender tray with large handles and a built-in stand for the teapot. --Marcie Bovetz

The Perfect Tea SetI searched all over for a tea set that my 2-year-old daughter could actually use. This one is wonderful! The set is sized just right -- the cups hold enough that she (and I) can actually drink out of them, the teapot holds enough to pour liquid into all four cups, the teapot is easy to pour, and the cups are easy to hold. To top is off, it's a really pretty set, has a very well designed, easy to use tray, and is made of super durable molded plastic! Not to mention then cream and sugar set, spoons you could actually use if you wanted to, and a very reasonable price.
I was concerned about the "pouring" noise making us crazy as it kept going off when I wrapped the gift, but found that in the course of normal play it's not bothersome. Just store the gift flat until it's unwrapped. My daughter found it really intriguing to unwrap a gift that was singing.
My daughter has a lot of fun playing with this toy and serving all her stuffed friends. It's on my gift list for all the little girls I know.
Hours of fun
My daughter received this for her second birthday and it has been a favourite ever since. The cups, saucers and spoons are just the right size for little hands (and not too bad for parents hands as well if you are playing along). The teapot is cute and makes a twinkling noise when you "pour" or plays the song "I'm a little teapot" when you press the button on top. It also comes with a milk jug and sugar bowl. All the things you need for a wonderful afternoon tea. Everything fits neatly on the tray and my daughter doesn't seem to have too much trouble carrying it around when serving tea to me and her special doll. This is a wonderful tea set for play, not too many pieces and made by Fisher Price so you know it's going to last.

Great playmat!!!!!My son has been using this playmat since he was 2 months old. He is now 7 months and still reaches for it daily. He has learned to flip it over so he can reach the higher toys. I have yet to replace the batteries and everything still works great. The music plays for quite a while so you don'thave to keep running over to restart it. My son also loves the crinkle leaf and zebra tail on the mat itself. Since he has been rollling over, he can now chew on them and it is one more thing to keep him occupied! I highly recommend this line of products!
Not the best activity gym out there
My baby's not here yet, so I can't comment on how well a baby likes this, but this gym is not nearly as nice as the gym we had with our last child (Tiny Love Gymini Deluxe). I was tempted to spend the extra money on Tiny Love again, but decided to give Fisher Price a try. My main complaints with this gym are the fact that it does not fold up for storage (without taking it apart that is and doesn't fit well in the plastic bag it comes in even when partially taken apart) and the fact that the mat is very thin. If you can afford it at all, I would recommend going with a Tiny Love instead, as they have nice thick mats and fold up easily into their bag for storage, which is very convenient!
great!
My baby has been fascinated with the lights and hanging animals since 6 weeks. Nice music- more upbeat songs for when active, and quieter rainforest sounds for when getting sleepy.
